Fun Things Wash Up Ashore: Beach Fossils

March 2, 2010 § 2 Comments

Socks forever.

I just heard these guys while looking up Woods (also an amazing group). They both have a single on the label, Captured Tracks. Against my bank account’s better judgement, within 5 minutes I immediately purchased their single for “Daydream”; they are called Beach Fossils. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, but they sound oddly laidback which makes me think mostly of Californian bands, jangly and reverberated, tunes full of melody and soft vocals. How can I say no? Do they even have beaches in New York? There is an air of nostalgia to their sound, recalling The Beach Boys (however, far more washed out and slow) but also more contemporary projects such as Girls. I guess I could draw a comparison to fellow New England band, Galaxie 500–they too had slow and melodic songs. I highly recommend checking out Beach Fossils, as they are just plain likeable and poppy.
